The game is a spin-off of the popular Korean MMO MapleStory, which offers a side-scrolling take on the genre and has been a major hit in the East for well over a decade.

MapleStory M was originally released in Korea in October 2016 and achieved over two million downloads in its first two weeks. Now available for free on iOS and Android, MapleStory M has gone on to improve on this success around the globe.

Nexon reports it topped the Apple App Store highest grossing charts in five countries, including Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan, securing a spot in the Top 10 in a further six countries. It was also the highest grossing game on Google Play in Singapore, second highest in Taiwan, fourth in Malaysia and sixth in Thailand.

The game's appeal still appears to be primarily for Eastern audiences. The only Western accomplishment Nexon chose to highlight was a No.45 ranking in the highest grossing on the Apple App Store, and No.46 on Google Play.

The publisher is celebrating this download milestone with a limited time giveaway of in-game items for users who log in before August 10th.
