AGDQ 2023 goes digital due to Florida anti-trans legislation

The speedrun charity also attributed that state's COVID-19 mandates as part of its decision to not be an in-person event

Speedrun charity marathon, Awesome Games Done Quick has announced that its next event, AGDQ 2023, will be an online only event.

The decision was explained via Twitter, the organization shifted away from an in-person in response to the state's recent slew of anti-trans legislation.

Going to a digital event was also attributed to Florida's safety protocols regarding COVID-19.

"Given the state's continued disregard for COVID-19's dangers (including anti-mandate policies) and an increased aggression towards LGBTQ+ individuals, including the law colloquially known as 'Don't Say Gay,' we do not believe it is a safe place for our community," the organization said.

AGDQ 2023 will take place from January 8 until January 15.

During the start of the year, Awesome Games Done Quick raised $3.4 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
