Apps World North America 2014

The Story 2014

The Story is a one-day conference about stories and story-telling, to be held at The Conway Hall, London, on Friday, February 22nd, 2013

Sony PlayStation Open Day

On Wednesday 26th February Leamington Spa plays host to the first Sony PlayStation Open Day to take place outside of London. Interested parties can register to attend by emailing DeveloperEvents@scee.net.

Sony will discuss the digital opportunities that PlayStation platforms offer indie developers, with insight not just from Sony's developer relations and R&D teams but other industry experts as well, including Team 17's Debbie Bestwick. Develop Magazine will also be hosting panels during the event, and is holding the next Develop Quiz at nearby pub The Duke on the same evening.

GAMEON-ASIA 2014

The aim of the 5th Asian GAME-ON Conference (GAME-ON ASIA'2014) on Simulation and AI in Computer Games, is to bring together researchers and games people from ASIA and the rest of the world, in order to exchange ideas on feasible techniques and research findings, which will be beneficial to the gaming industry and academia. Secondly it aims to steer young people into this industry by providing how-to tutorials and giving them the opportunity to show their ideas and demos to the gaming industry. Indievelopment 2014

Indievelopment is organised by students, for students and the game development industry. At Indievelopment, independent game developers from all over the world share their experiences in game development and our visitors are given the chance to extend their network and meet their favourite developers. PAX East 2014

In 2004, the folks at Penny Arcade decided they wanted a show exclusively for gaming. Sure, comics, anime, and other nerd hobbies were cool, and those activities all had their own shows… so what about games? From that idea spawned a small 4,500 person event in Bellevue, Washington, focused on the culture and community that is gaming.

Since then, the show hasn’t looked back. Doubling in size each year until venue capacities were reached, in 2010 the show expanded into Boston for PAX East, drawing tens of thousands of attendees in the inaugural year. The shows in Seattle and Boston represent the two largest gaming events in North America!

While storytelling probably began as a very fluid process, several centuries of the printed book have given fiction an air of inflexibility and inevitability. However, for several decades, authors of gamebooks like Choose Your Own Adventure and Fighting Fantasy have been finding ways to directly involve the reader in the narrative of the book and to encompass multiple possibilities within a single volume.

TIGA Kickstarter Q&A

TIGA, the network for videogame developers and digital publishers in the UK is hosting a free-to-attend afternoon Q&A session with Kickstarter to help indies understand how best to raise funds and build a community around their work.

Control Conference

A mix of international speakers and local heroes make for an interesting line-up of the second Control Conference, November 25 in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Among the strong line up are Naughty Dog's concept artists John Sweeney and Nick Gindraux, Bioware's art director Derek Watts, Minecraft's composer Daniel 'C418' Rosenfeld, Vlambeer's co-founder and game designer Jan Willem Nijman as well as Irrational Games' former studio director and VP, Leonie Manshanden.

The developer focused conference is being organized by Dutch developer publication Control Magazine and will be completely in English.
