European Innovative Games Award 2012

The countdown for the European Innovative Games Award 2012 is running: In about two weeks, on tuesday, February 5, the winners of the E.I.G.A. 2012 will be announced in Frankfurt am Main. Since 2008, the award that is carried out in cooperation with the European Commission honors the most innovative games of the continent. For the E.I.G.A. 2012, which is awarded in the categories T – Innovative Technology, GD – Innovative Game Design, AME – Innovative Application Methods and Environments as well as N – Innovative Newcomer, twelve titles from seven countries are nominated. Three of them, like for example Game Change Rio, made by Code Sustainable from Frankfurt, compete for the award in the category N – Innovative Newcomer, that is endowed with 10.000 Euros from the Hessian Ministry of Economics. All in all, four nominations go to German productions. Along with APlay Multiplayer Engine from Activator and articy:draft from Nevigo, Tiny& Big: Grandpas Leftovers from Black Pants Studios made it to the shortlist.

PAX East

In 2004, the folks at Penny Arcade decided they wanted a show exclusively for gaming. Sure, comics, anime, and other nerd hobbies were cool, and those activities all had their own shows… so what about games? From that idea spawned a small 4,500 person event in Bellevue, Washington, focused on the culture and community that is gaming.

Since then, the show hasn’t looked back. Doubling in size each year until venue capacities were reached, in 2010 the show expanded into Boston for PAX East, drawing tens of thousands of attendees in the inaugural year. The shows in Seattle and Boston represent the two largest gaming events in North America!

onGameStart US

The OnGameStart Conference is considered the original HTML5 conference event. In the past it has been held in Poland, but on March 15th, 2013, the conference is planned to take place in New York City. At the moment there are 8 planned speakers, 2 of which will focus their presentations exclusively on WebGL related material.

Flash Gaming Summit (FGS) 5

The official theme for FGS 5 is "Evolve Your Game". Why?
Flash game developers are expanding (evolving) their games into new platforms and technologies, opening up new opportunities and revenue streams. Copenhagen Games 2013

Copenhagen Games, which have grown to be one of the largest events in Europe, has just announced their first title for the 2013 event. Sponsored by Intel and Komplett, a grand total of $44,000 will be given out to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The event is set to take place during March 27th-31st in Copenhagen, Denmark at the Øksnehallen Centre. In the past the venue has hosted both Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source events.

Digital Dragons European Games Festival

Digital Dragons is a regular event gathering Polish and European games producers and publishers in Kraków. The main organiser of the Festival is the Kraków Technology Park (KTP). The History of Games International Conference

In spite of the strong wake of game studies in the last decade, the history of video and computer games is still in its infancy in the academic world. Some significant contributions have been made and continue to emerge. In 2004, the folks at Penny Arcade decided they wanted a show exclusively for gaming.
