Games Jobs - Programming - Brighton

Job Title Graduate / Junior Programmer
Skills Required AI / Artificial Intelligence,Network / Online / Server,Gameplay,Animation Programmer,Graduate Programmer
Job Description Are you a graduate looking for your first job in the games industry?  Or perhaps you have some experience which you're now looking to expand on?

Studio Gobo is a young company (just over two years old), but already we have worked on multiple world class projects for companies such as Disney, Codemasters and Microsoft.  Compared to many console development teams we are a relatively small, focused team.  All our work is done in cross discipline teams, not as one discipline delivering work for another to take on and use.  We have a more holistic approach where a sub-team is responsible from start to finish for a feature's delivery.
We have a very flad management structure (the company directors are part of the sub-teams) and the leader of the feature is the most appropriate perrson for it, not necessarilly the most 'senior' person on the team.
In return for this we offer an excellent remuneration package, inlcuding a share of the team bonus pool and free gym membership.

We're looking for people who are passionate about playing and making games.  We have a principle that 'everyone is a designer' and it's important that you can contribute knowledge of other games to discussions about feature design.
You have to be a very strong C++ programmer.  Without this, you're not going to be able to get fully involved in the things we do.  We want people who have a broad range of interests, and a demonstrable deeper interest in something.  Anything.  Fast fill algorithms, Judo, flying model aircraft, 3D printing, anything.  We make games in a wide context and it's important that we bring other experiences to them.  We also look for self-starters.  We try not to fit people in to roles, but allow people to find their own role in the studio.  Many people move around what they are working on within a project, as they, and the project, go in new directions.

In general, all the programmers here have Firsts from a University that's respected for the course they did.  It doesn's have to be Computer Science or a games focused degree - we currently also have people who did Electronics, Maths and Physics - technical subjects with a maths component.

In Summary:
  • 1st Class Honours or 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Maths, any games programming subject or similar
  • Strong programming, maths and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrable C++ programming skills
  • Ability to understand, debug and optimise other programmers code
  • A passion for playing and developing high quality console games
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of other scripting languages is an advantage
