Job Description THE COMPANY

Our client is an independent video games developer based in Middlesbrough, England. The studio is focused on creating new concepts for consoles and handhelds, whilst maintaining good relationships as an outsource company.

Established in 2006, the studio focuses on development of innovative console and handheld titles for platforms including the Nintendo DS, Wii and Sony PlayStation 2.

Since then, our client has been employed to develop three titles based on a popular international children’s TV licence, for multiple platforms.

Our client pride themselves upon releasing innovative, well designed and enjoyable gameplay experiences, backed up by a variety of strong in-house art styles and character designs. As a result, the studio has seen a growing interest in its original concepts.


THE ROLE

Candidates must have previous experience of game development and Wii development would be a definite bonus. Applicants must have good time keeping skills, the ability to work to deadlines and be able to manage their time and their team’s workflow.

A passion for videogames is a must, as well as the drive to develop something new and creative.

Responsibilities will include:-

* Lead the day to day management of the programming team

* Regular appraisal, review and objective setting for programming and other parts of the team

* Assist with recruitment

* Liaise with external parties as required

* Prepare task schedules for programming team in conjunction with programmers other leads etc

* Monitor and progress tasks schedules for programming team

* Identify and review task risks recommend and help implement mitigation and contingencies

* Responsible for production of technical specifications based on game design

* Offer advice on the design from a technical perspective

* Ensure good coding standards are set and achieved across the team

* Recommend training requirements for programming team

Requirements:-

* Must have several years industry experience and knowledge of all aspects of game development process

* Extensive technical design and analytical abilities

* Very strong C++ and object-oriented skills essential

* Proven ability to mentor junior staff

Beneficial:-

* Specific technical development experience (graphics, physics, networking)

* Previous framework design and development experience

* One title shipped as Lead Programmer (beneficial, but not required)
