The Second Life Grid provides the platform where Second Life resides and offers the tools for business, educators, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs to develop a virtual presence. Headquartered in San Francisco, Linden Lab has over 200 employees spread across the globe and are now growing its European Studio based in Brighton, UK.

Overview:

We are looking for a brilliant data warehousing professional to build and maintain the critical warehouse infrastructure that support our team in making smart business decisions. This software engineering role at Linden Lab contributes to the organization's success through expertise in data warehouse design and ETL (Extraction, Transformation & Loading of data). Qualified individuals will have a solid background in the fundamentals of Data Warehousing as well as mastery of SQL and relational database design.

Responsibilities:

Warehouse Design - Work with the Operations team and the reporting business analyst to implement a solid, extensible warehouse design that supports the new analytics requirements.
Warehouse ETL - Build and maintain code to populate the data warehouse with data loaded from production databases. Perform all necessary data transformations to populate data into a warehouse table structure that is optimized for reporting.
On-going Warehouse Maintenance - Quickly assess the impact of production system changes to existing analytics and implement changes to the warehouse ETL and reporting code to ensure consistent and accurate reporting.

Qualifications:

- 3+ years experience working extensively with SQL. (Mastery of SQL and relational concepts).
- Experience with the design and implementation of scripts that populate large relational data warehouse environments (with tables that contain millions of rows).
- Solid understanding of rational index design and SQL statement optimization techniques.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment on really interesting problems - Must be able to use sound judgment to develop effective solutions from loosely stated requirements.
- Intense attention to detail - Should be able to effectively QA own work product to make sure that warehouse data is complete and accurate.
- Exceptional problem solving and communication skills.
- Authorized to work in the US.
- Proficiency with Perl a plus.
- Entrepreneurial or start-up experience.
