| Job Description | The Birmingham Studio is the newest of the Codemasters studios having become part of the Codemasters group in late 2008. It has already enjoyed great success with the BAFTA and Develop Award winning number one hit F1 2010. Codemasters Birmingham is now working on F1 2012, as well as an exciting new title for release in 2012. The existing team is made up of some very experienced staff, some having worked in the industry for over 20 years, with average experience in the studio of over a decade. Situated in brand new offices in Birmingham city centre near the end of Broad Street, they are looking for a Experienced Games Designer to work on their new yet undisclosed title for 2012. General Overview of the position: Responsible for the design of a project and to monitor that project through development ensuring that it adheres to the vision and direction, meeting the highest standard within required timescales in conjunction with senior members of the Design Team Main duties and responsibilities: Conceptualisation Arrange and facilitate appropriate design meetings and contribute considered comments and thoughts to the concepts being discussed Ensure that thorough notes are taken and the concepts being discussed are fully understood Make valuable contributions to both the concept and vision of the project. Research Use all sources available to research the relevant area(s) of design Assist in coordinating the Games Designers in researching the project Play and review objectively competing products Review and report on consumer research Documentation Ensure that all allocated design work is documented in accordance with the standards outlined and set by the Chief Games Designer. Produce the required documentation in the timeframe stated by Line Manager Ensure all relevant design documentation is up to date Ensure the vision of the game is clear in all documentation Check Games Designers documentation Communication and Implementation Ensure decisions allocated at design meeting are fully carried out Communicate clearly with the design and development teams, ensuring documentation is fully understood and implemented correctly. Report back regularly to the line manager on all areas. Act as point of contact for feedback on the project (where appropriate) Game Balancing and Play Testing Play test and balance all areas of the game, in line with the vision and direction as set by the Design Team. To play and suggest appropriate changes to games currently in development and prototyping To liaise constantly with the Quality Assurance Team Leader on all relevant issues To communicate regularly with other development team members on Game Balancing issues.
