Job Description My client is a fresh indie games studio focused on creating quirky and original digital games. Based in Covent Garden, Central London they produce super high quality games on a range of platforms from Facebook and iPhone to the PSP.

They build custom games for clients such as EA, Disney, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. In addition we design and publish our own original games on a range of digital platforms. Some of their recent titles include Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess! and Whos that Flying?!'

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be working with our Technical Lead to help plan, design and implement new projects, oversee other developers and build key systems at Mediatonic.

Our games project timelines typically run for between 3 – 6 months. You’ll be responsible for the technical design and implementation of our projects from start to finish. Responsibilities include:

- Designing database schemas
- Planning technical implementation of projects
- Designing new game APIs
- Optimizing applications for extremely high volumes of traffic (Sharding, Caching, etc)
- Actively suggest, design and develop new systems, frameworks and solutions to accelerate our development process
- Overseeing and assisting other developers (both internal and external)
- Constantly explore new technologies, build prototypes and make recommendations on what we should fold into our technology stack

Requirements

We’re looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following:

- 3+ years of experience in developing object-orientated web apps using PHP
- A solid understanding of the techniques for building high performance, scalable, maintainable software
- Familiarity with good development practices including source control, testing, automation.
- Passion. It could be about the potential of online gaming or web development in general. We’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about the quality of the work they produce.
- A good understanding of Linux, configuring web servers and applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

These skills are also a plus:

- Front end development skills (HTML5, CSS, Javascript, etc)
- Knowledge of Flash, Android or iPhone development
- Experience in working with the Facebook platform or similar 3rd party APIs
