Microsoft Game Studios is looking a dynamic and seasoned Head of External Development to lead and develop world-class teams who create, execute and deliver a portfolio of innovative 1st party connected game and entertainment experiences for Microsoft. The Head of External Development will take ownership for creating culturally relevant product roadmaps for developer’s right across the EMEA landscape, overseeing production from initial concept development through to world-class production capacities ultimately delivering high-quality games that constantly pushes the best financial and viral performance - all done on-time and on-budget. Reporting to the Senior Director, Studio Operations IEB EMEA, the Head of External Development must be able to demonstrate a mix of strong business leadership, the ability to influence and drive new business models forward, a creative thinker, pragmatic producer, entrepreneur and someone who has a great sense of what makes quality, casual and multi-player game experiences. The successful Head of External Development must be able to review concepts and have a sense for what will make a successful game experience. Additionally, they must have proven experience interacting with production planning, technical teams, business groups and be able to sell their ideas to the highest levels of executive management. Main Responsibilities: The Head of External Development will have roll-up P&L responsibility for a portfolio of experiences and must actively manage the process to ensure the agreed criteria success of all products. Drive and grow a sustainable production group with an ongoing pipeline of innovative and high quality games. Continue to grow, define and manage a content development team consistent with the portfolio and business goals. Ensure that all projects are aligned internally with all levels of the organization. Maintain professional relationships with external developers, entertainment content owners and social media businesses to guarantee a great working relationship leading to titles being delivered on budget and on time. Provide direction, identify properties and concepts with the greatest potential and drive the teams to successful launch and ongoing development of game experiences. Act as the connecting point between executive management, business units, intellectual property partners and both internal/external development studios. Manage internal pitch processes and participate in executive-level “green-light” and evaluation processes. Collaborate to support the definition of roles and integration points with the development teams. Work closely with the internal development team to incorporate creative solutions and experiences into the production titles. Ability to travel both domestically and internationally. Qualifications: Can demonstrate a deep knowledge of all aspects of game creation, gained from working through a number of early game innovation cycles through production to shipping games (free to play, online and casual experiences would be a distinct advantage). Proven ability to blend business, creative and project management decision making. Combination of product portfolio and service management experience or insights is ideal. A track record of defining, building and managing a world-class / AAA rated game production group. Proven track record of hiring and managing multiple production teams (both internal & external would be a clear advantage) that have successfully delivered products to the marketplace. Adaptable - able to with new business models as well as traditional game development / entertainment content distributers. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to manage and work within ambiguity to reach a successful outcome. A passion to innovate in the gaming and entertainment space - with a strong passion for new business opportunities. Experience in building new business or franchises a definite advantage. BA /BSc or equivalent experience.
