Role Purpose
Lionhead Studios is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Programmer to be a key contributor on an unannounced title. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys playing online games and has a working knowledge of multiplayer peer-to-peer and client-server game systems. The role will focus on designing, implementing and optimizing the network architecture for the project in an existing framework, taking into account security concerns and implementing online features.

Key Accountabilities:
•Technical design and implementation of a scalable and maintainable client network architecture
•Sensible use of 3rd Party and other existing resources to achieve required features.
•Work with the Design and Programming teams to ensure the feasibility of multiplayer features
•Network performance meets all technical and platform requirements.
•Identify security and fairness concerns and offer solutions

Key Success Criteria:
•All network related aspects of the project are understood with implementations in place before entering Production.
•Scalability issues and risks are identified and planned for.
•All testing issues related to multiplayer features are accounted for and relayed to production.
•Game design components are fully supported by the network architecture
•Network bandwidth and latency issues are accounted for and optimizations and mitigations in place.
•Any cloud related aspects of the networking requirements are designed and implemented.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential Experience
•Proven client-server and peer-to-peer architecture experience
•Experience dealing with network and server security issues
•Experience with lag compensation techniques
•Experience with packet repeaters
•Low-level network experience (protocols, packet optimisation, NAT traversal etc.)
•Experience with load balancing
•Fluent in C++ and C#

Desirable Experience
•Passion for playing Multiplayer games
•A shipped multiplayer title as a Network/Server Programmer
•Cloud environments (Azure, Amazon EC2 etc.)
•Some database development knowledge
•Multitier architecture experience
•Xbox 360 / Xbox Live experience
•Multiplatform development experience
•Unreal experience
