Job Description Programmer

Our client is an independent video game developer located in Toronto whose mission is to deliver fun and engaging games. Currently they have an opening for programmer to join their team.

The Programmer, as a member of the programming team, is involved in the day-to-day creation of systems either as part of a project or for the studio generally. The Programmer is also responsible for ensuring that he or she is effectively sharing his or her experience and expertise to assist junior programmers in continuing their professional development.

Key Activities:

• Participation in program design and architecture

• Designing and coding game systems

• Implementing and refining asset pipelines

• Researching and implementing new technologies and algorithms

• Assisting with the scheduling of programming activities on the project and completing programming tasks in accordance with schedule

• Coordinating with entire product development team

• Must be prepared to assume any of the programming tasks required to complete a particular project including ensuring that a working build is always available to the team

• Coordinating with Director of Technology/Lead Programmer on time estimates in scheduling and work breakdowns.

• Rapidly and accurately create content needed for the prototype phase.

• Taking ownership of assigned tasks, taking pride in the quality of work.

• Creating and fostering a positive demeanor and work environment demonstrating

Professional Requirements:

• 3+ years of professional game industry programming experience

• Must have worked on shipped titles for current consoles (PS3, X360)

• Experience working with all disciplines on a project

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Excellent time management and organizational skills with the proven ability to meet tight production deadlines

• Enthusiastic gamer, positive attitude and an ability to provide and receive constructive criticism

• Willing to be available beyond core hours, accommodating the needs of the project and the team

• An interest in advancing the state of the art in game technologies and development methodologies

Technical Requirements:

• B.S. or higher degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering

• Demonstrated knowledge of good software engineering practices

• Excellent research and analytical skills

• Detailed technical knowledge of PS3 and Xbox 360 game programming

• Comprehensive understanding of current development tools (esp. Visual Studio and Perforce, Incredibuild, SN-DBS, Cruise Control)

• Ability to develop tools and scripts to streamline the development process.

• Experience developing Unreal Engine based games

• Ability to work as an integral team member on one or more of the following systems: Animation, Physics, Networking, Sound, AI, Gameplay, Tools / Art pipeline / Build management, and Graphics: 3D Rendering and shaders

Desirable Skills:

• Good knowledge of Unreal Engine 3. Gamebryo, and other game engines and middle-ware products

• Experience integrating Physics systems such as Havok or PhysX into games

• Experience with various languages including assembly (x86, PowerPC), shaders, and scripting languages (UnrealScript, Perl, Python, Lua)

• Knowledge of art tools such as 3DS Max, Motion Builder, XSI, Maya, and Photoshop, including scripting and plug-in development
