Job Description ENTERTAINING IS OUR PASSION

EA was founded 25 years ago by individuals with a deep passion for making games. Many things have changed over the years as the gaming industry—and the company—has expanded immensely, but we are still driven by the same passion for developing, publishing, and distributing the world’s best games. Our history has been one of great success, and our future looks even brighter. Gaming has come a long way from Pac-Man & Space Invaders to modern EA Favourites like Burnout, Battlefield, Mercenaries, Dead Space, Spore, FIFA, Madden, Need for Speed and the world’s most successful game franchise, The Sims. Fuelled by our talented staff at locations right across the Globe we are united in our passion to continue shaping the future of interactive entertainment. Together we can make a difference.

Role Overview:
Criterion is the best racing game studio in the industry and as such demands a world class team of developers. To be a part of this talented team you need to be passionate about games as well as skilled in your chosen profession. Artists who join Criterion need to offer strong all round creative skills as well as be expert in at least one area of the creation of art for video games. We are looking for artists who understand gameplay and how art makes the players experience more rich and rewarding. They need to know what matters to consumers and maximise that to the best effect.

The role we are looking to fill is likely to involve mainly environment modelling initially but any applicant is more likely to be considered if they offer other skills and experience as well as proficiency in building game worlds.

We are looking for artists who use good processes, such as reference gathering in their work and can effectively build geometry for authentic real world environments to a technical specification. An understanding of how best to represent environments in a game world to best effect from the players perspective is also essential.

An artist who has experience modelling environments for racing games would be of particular interest to us. Experience with Photoshop is essential and Maya experience is preferred.

What skills does Criterion look for?
(A showreel is essential for an applicant to be considered for this position.)
The portfolio/show reel must demonstrate the following:
- Evidence that the artist understands modeling requirements for video games
- Evidence that the artist can work from reference and create believable, authentic geometry

- Examples of environment
- Good use of light and shadow
- An understanding of optimization
- Excellent sense of scale and level of finish
- Examples demonstration drawing skills beneficial

Note:
In showreels be clear about what specific work you did on any videos/stills from any group projects.

Successful applicants will be contacted within a week of their application. All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

GamesIndustry.biz is the world's most read and influential games industry website. But don't just take our word for it!

I really like the combination of analysis behind the news that GamesIndustry.biz provides. It taps into the brains and emotions of so many industry constituencies; Developers and Publishers of course, but also manufacturers, government and financial players. With so much volatility these days, it’s important to be fully advised as well as informed. Highly recommended!
