Job Description This is the Australian studio of a major Californian company who develop, publish, and distribute interactive entertainment software. The studio was founded in 2003 and have grown to 50+ staff in that time. They are currently working on a high profile project for all three major consoles with pre-production just stating on another title. They are looking to expand to 70 people in the next year. My client offer a friendly environment and great infrastructure, competitive salaries, stock options, salary packaging, and significant project bonuses.
The Level Designer is responsible for designing, building and documenting
gameplay elements and levels in a game. The position will require the use of our
proprietary level design/world building tools and close collaboration with the
environment art team to produce finished game worlds. Although industry
experience is an advantage, motivated and talented applicants looking to break
into the games industry should not be deterred from applying for this role.

Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with the design team to research and prototype interesting and fun
gameplay ideas

- Pitch gameplay and level ideas to the Project Director and other team members
for validation and approval

- Document level designs to a high standard

- Design high quality, fun and interesting levels using our in house level
design software

- Create unpolished placeholder art assets for games using 3DS max

- Push the level design of our games to a high standard whilst respecting and
understanding the technical constraints imposed

- Collaborate closely with the environment art team to establish the look and
feel of the levels

- Balance and fine tune gameplay areas based on feedback and focus testing
- Correct bugs found by testers

Technical Requirements:

- Previous games industry experience an advantage
- Previous artistic/design experience an advantage
- A basic level of proficiency with 3DS max is essential
- Good written English skills are essential Skills include some of Games, Design, Level Design, Level Editors, gameplay, scripting
