Job Description Top AAA game studio has several exciting opportunities for experienced Online Programmers in there expanding Programming team.
 

Candidates should have experience within a similar programming role, and should be an exceptionally creative problem solver, an excellent communicator, and always shows high levels of enthusiasm and a talent for creating games. The candidate must be driven by the desire to create technology to support innovative and leading-edge online experiences which integrate with the game titles being developed .

The Online Programmer role requires outstanding technical knowledge, system architecture design abilities, and know-how of effective software engineering processes in order to create high-quality online code, technology & tools. The candidate must also have excellent organisation and scheduling abilities and an ability to work well with the online programming group.

This role will report to the Lead Online Programmer, working alongside them to deliver high-quality online libraries and technologies. Both client-side and server-side programming will be required.

Role Responsibilities
•Liaise with the Lead Online Programmer and customers in the Studio (such as the Design team) to understand and prioritise feature requirements for this companies suite of Online Technologies, in order to realise the goals of the game(s) which are being developed using the Online Technologies.
•Design and plan the architecture of online technology and code, and discuss and agree your designs with the Lead Online Programmer.

•Write code which forms part of the Online Technology suite.
•Propose beneficial new features for the online libraries, or suggest process improvements to your Lead Programmer and Technical Director.
•Develop tools as appropriate to support Online Technologies.
•Assist the Online Lead Programmer with research into platforms, and 3rd party technologies and services which have the potential to support the Online-related goals of our games. There may be opportunities to recommend technologies for investigation or purchase, to the Online Lead Programmer and Technical Director.
•Fixing bugs which are assigned to you. Prioritise high priority bugs, and ensure that these are promptly fixed, and ensure that lower priority bugs are also fixed in an appropriate time-frame.
•Write well-engineered code which is high quality, robust, and complies with coding standards.

Role Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Experience)

Key Attributes:
•At least 4 shipped videogame titles.
•At least 5 years of C++ programming experience in the games industry.
•Experience on all current generation consoles & PC, and programming online-related aspects of the games you have shipped.
•In-depth knowledge of online-technologies and terminology, including (but by no means limited to):
◦Various network technologies
◦TCP/IP
◦Error handling & Graceful degradation
◦Packet optimisation (Bandwidth optimisation)
◦Prediction
◦Excellent knowledge of 1st Party platform TRC requirements (particularly in respect of online TRCs).
•Positive and outgoing personality.
•Excellent creative problem solving abilities.
•Excellent organisational abilities.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Excellent abilities in high-quality Software Engineering.
•Excellent bug finding and fixing skills.
•Excellent code profiling and optimisation skills.
•Have a passion for playing and writing games
