The Lead Programmer is responsible for maintaining the highest quality of programming on their specific project. Additionally, the Lead Programmer takes responsibility for managing the software team.

The Lead Programmer is responsible for reporting to the Producer/Technical Director, keeping them informed of technical progress as well as the performance of the rest of the programming team.

The Lead Programmer will guide those programmers that are less experienced in particular areas, as well as evaluating their performance throughout the life of the project.

The Lead Programmer will be responsible for the creation of Technical Design Documents at the start of a project and will have the final say within the programming team about technical issues.

The Lead programmer must be prepared to take on ANY of the programming tasks required to complete their project, if the other programmers are not able or available to do so.

The Lead Programmer will work on many aspects of MMO project development using existing sub-systems such as networking, rendering (DirectX/OpenGL), physics, game-play and front-end user interface.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must possess a high level of programming skills - this is a crucial requirement. The Lead Programmer must have a strong background in programming, ideally relating to video game development.
Very strong C++ with exposure to Design Patterns, STL with solid engineering techniques.
Experience with PC MMO development is highly desirable but we are willing to consider previous experience on other projects within a similar capacity.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to give and receive constructive feedback.
Excellent organisational skills.
Excellent troubleshooting abilities and/or the resourcefulness to obtain solutions.
Remain ‘up-to-date’ on all aspects of cutting edge programming as it relates to the video game industry.
Willing to learn and be open to new ideas. The candidate must be adaptable and be able to pick up new skills quickly.
Video game experience - playing games as well as programming games.
Must have worked on at least one published title.
Able to recruit new programmers and advise the Technical Director of good candidates and have the ability to induct newly hired programmers as required, providing them with a complete overview and hands-on familiarisation of the company programming procedures prior to being assigned to a working team.
Perform periodic “skill reviews” of team members and provide feedback to the Technical Director.
Assist in performing annual reviews of programming team members and provide feedback and support to the Technical Director.
