Lead Animator

We are currently looking for a full-time Lead Animator to join an unannounced AAA game project.

We are prepared to accept applications from the very best talent from around the world and offer relocation packages in order to secure the right candidate for this role.

As an integral part of the team, you will collaborate with the production management team to define and execute the overall creative vision of the project. Ongoing responsibilities include: defining the standards and practices of animation, operationally managing a team of in-house animators, managing deliverables and quality-control for outsourced animation, and communication with the production management team to ensure the highest possible standards of production.

You will be involved in all aspects of the production from the initial design of character movement and technical considerations of implementation to collaboration with other art teams and the creation of final animation. Your goal is to set new standards for animations for games.

Basic Roles and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Art Director, Game Director, and Cutscene Director in creation of the overall artistic vision of the game
• Set benchmarks for animation quality for the internal and external teams
• Be responsible for the overall planning of animation, assist animation team members in planning
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the animators of the team
• Deliver content on schedule and within technical limitations
• Work with Programming and Design to ensure animations properly fitting AI requirements
• Help define animation tools and technical systems necessary to produce projects
• Be responsible for motion capture sessions

Required Skills

• Accomplished 3D animator with experience of leading a team through at least one AAA title
• Ability to manage in-house team of animators
• Understanding of rigging and skinning principles
• Ability to create realistic character animation
• Experienced in one or more 3D applications (3ds Max, Motion Builder, Maya, ...)
• Solid experience with motion capture
• Ability to develop plans and give appropriate direction for team-members and outsourced production
• Ability to respond elegantly to difficult creative changes, often late in the process
• Self-motivated towards solving creative problems
• Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
• A passion for video games is mandatory

Of advantage

• Fine art background
• 2D animation experience
• Excellent graphic skills and significant knowledge of art fundamentals including staging, layout, storytelling, and editing
• Facial animation skills and experience
