XLGames adopts CryEngine 2 for new MMO

Lineage creator signs up Crytek middleware

XLGames, the studio founded by Lineage creator Jake Song, has signed with Crytek to use the developer's CryEngine 2 middleware for a new MMORPG.

Song has experience of using CryEngine 1 while working at NCsoft on Aion, where he held the position of executive VP of development.

"The CryEngine 2 is in a class by itself, and is the perfect technology on which to build our future gaming world and business," commented Song.

"Not only are the graphics unquestionably the best available, but the unprecedented ability it offers to physically interact with the environment will allow us to create entirely new modes of gameplay which up to now we could only dream of implementing."

XLGames has released the online racer XL1 and recently opened a studio in Austin, Texas to work alongside its Korean development team.

"Jake Song is a true pioneer and legend in the world of massively multiplayer games, having almost single handedly created the original market for them in Asia," commented Faruk Yerli, MD of Crytek.

"To now have his own company select the CryEngine 2 as their middleware, and Crytek as their primary technology provider, demonstrates a high level of confidence in our tools and technology, as well as in our teamâs ability to support their ongoing efforts to build a ground breaking new next generation game, not only now, but also for many years to come."
