World of Warcraft still growing as Blizzard pledges better customer service

"Blizzard has the desire to be the best in class in the service that we provide and the overall experience..."

Speaking exclusively with GamesIndustry.biz, Blizzard's VP of business operations Paul Sams has said that the company has "more work to do" on customer service as World of Warcraft continues to grow rapidly.

In an interview published today on the site, Sams discusses the difficulties faced by Blizzard following the launch of the hugely successful massively multiplayer game - whose incredible popularity took even its own developer by surprise, with player numbers meeting first year projections in a matter of days.

"We've had to work very hard to deal with that," according to Sams. "It's a high class problem, but a problem nonetheless, and it's required a lot of sleepless nights by all of us, working around the clock to make sure that we properly support the customers."

"I think we've done a relatively good job," he continued, "but we want to do better than we have; we have plans and aspirations and goals to be much better than we already are."

Elsewhere in the interview, Sams discussed the expansion of World of Warcraft into China, which may be its largest market yet, the re-invention of Starcraft Ghost and the company's take on the console market - including whether World of Warcraft could join rival MMORPG Final Fantasy XI on Xbox 360.

"GamesIndustry.biz is one of my starting tabs when I boot up... so it's always one of the first sites I see each day. It's good being able to catch up with what's happened in the US overnight, and in the UK before I'm awake first thing, and know that the stories will be accurate and thought out."
