Press Release PROVIDED BY GAMES PRESS

- Multiplay, organisers of the UK’s largest multiplayer gaming events for over 10 years and managers for the Samsung UK World Cyber Games team, are pleased to formally announce the success of the UK team at the Samsung WCG finals. The team was assembled at Multiplay’s M Festival event in the summer of 2008 where the best players from ten games were picked to represent Great Britain in the worldwide tournament.

The World Cyber Games features over 1.6 million players in the competition coming from a host of countries from all over the globe. This year's tournament final was held in Cologne, Germany and saw thousands attend for the Grand Final.

The UK came home with two medals – a gold and silver – after competing in titles such as Counter-Strike 1.6, FIFA '08, Need for Speed: Pro Street, Command & Conquer 3, Warcraft 3 and Starcraft on the PC.

It was the console gamers who won the medals at this years event as Monkey brought home gold in Guitar Hero 3 and Live won silver in Project Gotham Racing 4, both titles were staged on the Xbox 360.

The UK now ranks eighth in the World Cyber Games national rankings – an improvement of two positions over its 2007 place in the official table, maintained by the WCG organisation.

Samsung, worldwide partner of the WCG, organised and funded the UK team throughout the campaign and were the team’s official sponsors.
