Wii passes 500k Oz unit sales in record time

Nintendo has announced that the Wii is the fastest selling home console to break through the 500,000 units sold milestone in Australia.

Research conducted by GfK Australia shows that the sales mark was reached in just 84 weeks since the launch of Nintendo's console in the region. The Wii beat out the previous record holder, which reached the 500,000 goal in 107 weeks, making the Wii 23 weeks faster.

Nintendo's console has been in high demand since it launched and has suffered from hardware shortages. In a recent interview, Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata said the company couldn't guarantee Wii supplies for Christmas.
