Warner to announce fresh takeover - SCi likely?

GamesIndustry.biz has learned that Warner Bros is due to make an announcement on an impending acquisition in Europe "in the next few weeks" - with strong signs that SCi is the target in question.

The media giant has hired a number of staff in the UK and Europe over the past few months, and UK publisher SCi, which owns Eidos, has seen its share price jump by around 40 per cent in the past week.

Rumours continue to rumble around the national press, with The Guardian and The Independent both speculating that Warner Bros, or a "large American peer", was in talks to acquire SCi.

SCi first announced that a takeover was possible back in September last year, but as time dragged on and no firm offer was accepted the company's share price fell consistently.

Finally it announced that it had ended talks in January this year, and the fallout from that saw further stock decline - leading to a shareholder revolt and the subsequent departure of the management team.
