Wal-Mart promotes "green gaming"

Wal-Mart has announced it met with representatives of the three console manufacturers and games publishers in an effort to from a combined strategy to make console gaming more environmentally friendly.

During the "green gaming summit", Wal-Mart discussed the possibility of building into consoles a lower power or 'standby mode' for when they're not in use, according to the company's Check Out blog.

The retailer also advised the use of cardboard packaging instead of plastic, saying it would reduce the industry's carbon footprint by the equivalent of 4000 cars, and suggested that companies work with console manufacturers on coding and power usage to reduce power consumption.
