Virgin Megastores dismisses Xbox 360 bundle rumours
Consumers will not be forced to buy minimum of three games
A spokesperson for Virgin Megastores has dismissed rumours that the retailer will force consumers who have pre-ordered an Xbox 360 to purchase a minimum of three games before they can take their console home.
Speaking to our sister site, Eurogamer, the spokesperson dismissed the rumours as "simply not true," stating: "Virgin Megastores customers are not obliged to purchase games bundles."
The rumours stemmed from a report on Gamestyle.net which claimed that pre-ordering customers had been told: "If you still wish to collect your console on launch, you will have to purchase three games with the console bundle." The article has since been updated with Virgin Megastores' response.
According to reports from the likes of Oregon's Channel 6 News, US retailer Best Buy implemented a similar policy over in the States - and as a result, shop staff were forced to turn customers without enough cash to buy the bundle away. Best Buy has since said that anyone who felt forced into buying extra products can return them.
Although Virgin Megastores will not adopt any such policy, they will reward anyone who buys an Xbox 360 and two games with six vouchers, each worth GBP 5 off an Xbox 360 game. Each voucher is valid for one month, and can be used between January and June. Consumers who buy three games will get ten vouchers, valid until the end of October.
