Ubisoft negotiating three EUR 5m acquisition deals
Publisher "receiving tons of calls every week from people that want to sell," but disappointed it missed Cryptic deal
Ubisoft is currently negotiations three acquisition deals, each within the region of EUR 5 million (USD 6.5m / GBP 4.3m).
And according to CFO Alain Martinez, the company had been in the running for Cryptic Studios - the MMO specialist snapped up by Atari earlier this week.
"We have about three deals within the five million Euro range, each of them, that we are negotiating," said Martinez, speaking at the UBS Annual Global Media Conference.
"Probably, one or two of them will be closed in the next three or four months."
Martinez added that Ubisoft is not short of acquisition offers from smaller companies either, stating: "We are receiving tons of calls every week from people that want to sell."
The French publisher has acquired a number of businesses this year, including World in Conflict developer Massive Entertainment, Gameloft's development studio in India, and visual effects company Hybride Technologies.
While three acquisitions are currently on the table, the loss of Cryptic Studios to Atari left the company disappointed, according to Martinez.
"We lost one deal which we were a bit mad," he said. "We lost Cryptic - it's a US company - that was taken by Atari. We were a bit disappointed."
