Ubisoft could be behind SCi offer

Guardian claims French giant wants to buy Eidos

The Guardian newspaper has said that the bid approach received by SCi Entertainment is "believed to be from its French rival Ubisoft".

SCi, owner of British publisher Eidos, confirmed on Tuesday that it has been approached by an unnamed potential buyer.

The Guardian echoes the consensus that Time Warner and Electronic Arts will also show an interest in purchasing SCi. Time Warner is already a 10 per cent stakeholder in the company.

More controversially, the newspaper also suggests Sony as a possible bidder.

It is thought that the bid approach SCi received in 2005 was from Ubisoft too.

An outcome of the talks is not guaranteed, especially as the bid may simply be a result of SCi's currently depressed share price.

SCi appointed mergers and acquisitions expert Don Johnston to its board in March of this year.
