Ubisoft adjusts first half losses to EUR 78 million

Marginal decrease over estimates, as new Prince of Persia title is announced

Ubisoft has reported losses for the first half of the year of EUR 78, down marginally on the EUR 80 million estimated in November.

As previously reported, first half sales for the period ended September 30 were EUR 166 million, down from the EUR 344.5 million reported for the same period last year.

CEO Yves Guillemot said that Assassin's Creed II sales were encouraging, and the company expects big things from movie tie-in Avatar.

"First week sales of Assassin’s Creed II, up 32%, with positive initial indications for the second week, combined with an overwhelmingly warm reception from gamers, validates our strategy of developing bigger franchises," offered Guillemot.

"Based on this initial data, Assassin’s Creed II looks well positioned to outstrip targets while our Wii games have got off to a more contrasted start in a less predictable market. Finally, sales of James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game should benefit from the launch of the movie which is expected to be the biggest blockbuster of this holiday season."

The company also announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, to be released alongside the Jake Gyllenhaal movie, to be released in May 2010.
