Sony to distribute Colin McRae Dirt 2 across PAL regions

Codemasters confirms platform holder will handle PS3 and PSP versions of game

Sony Europe is to distribute the upcoming Colin McRae: Dirt 2 on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable formats across PAL regions, Codemasters has confirmed.

The platform holder will handle sales and distribution for the title in all PAL markets except Spain, Australia and New Zealand. It's a deal that indicates Sony's great support for the brand, said Codemasters, especially as the release will coincide with the release of its new slim PlayStation 3 console.

"To have Colin McRae: DiRT 2 represented by the platform holder during the new PS3 system's launch window is testimony to the strength of the game and its commercial relevance," commented Axel Herr, senior vice president of publishing at Codemasters.

"The Colin McRae series has enjoyed a great affinity with the PlayStation brand in PAL territories for over 10 years and we're proud to have the support and ambition of SCEE behind it during this key time for both the PS3 and PSP."

The racing title has already seen demo download figures hit close to the one million mark, said the developer. The full game will be released on September 10 in PAL regions - September 11 in the UK - on PlayStation 3, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii and DS.
