Sony has slashed the price of the PSP 3000 in Japan, reducing it by 15 per cent to make it cheaper than the Nintendo DS for the first time.

Following the price drop of the PlayStation 3 earlier this month, Sony has now confirmed the price of the PSP 3000 will fall ahead of the release of the new revised PSPgo hardware on November 1, reports Bloomberg.

The price reduction will take the console from JPY 19,800 (USD 219) to JPY 16,800 (USD 185) - a 15 per cent cent reduction - making it cheaper than the DS at JPY 18,900 (USD 209).

Sony is yet to confirm if the price drop will also be applied in other territories.
