Sony Computer Entertainment America is expected to cut the price of PlayStation 3 by USD 100 later this month.

The news comes following a recent advertisement from US retailer Circuit City which pointed to a price drop for the next-generation console, as reported by GameDaily.

It's believed this is a Sony initiative - and not just a promotional offer from the retailer. The price cut is expected to come into effect next week, following an announcement at the E3 Media & Business Summit.

The PlayStation 3 currently retails in North America for USD 599.

When contacted by GamesIndustry.biz Sony Computer Entertainment Europe declined to comment on the matter.
