Software sales fall for Sony

While sales of PlayStation 3 titles doubled in the past 12 months, Sony's latest financial results show that wasn't enough to offset the decline year-on-year of PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2 game sales.

For the three months to the end of September this year software unit sales for the PlayStation 3 increased by 10.7 million units to 21.1 million units.

But PSP game sales fell by 0.8 million units to 11.8 million, while PS2 games dropped by 14.9 million units to 23.1 million.

The company also noted that inventory was down by JPY 4.6 billion (USD 47.2 million) on last year's figure of JPY 243.2 billion (USD 2.3 billion), but that it was up by over 52 per cent on Q1, largely on increased stocks of PSP and PS3 hardware ready for the Holiday season.
