Sega launches online casual games portal

PlaySega.com to feature arcade, word, puzzle, quiz and sports titles for free

Sega has announced the launch of an online portal for casual games, entitled PlaySega.com, which will target "all types of gaming and social networking fans," according to a statement.

The site will offer a selection of titles for free, covering the arcade, word, puzzle, quiz and sports genres, as well as some Sonic titles, such as the mobile edition of Sonic at the Olympic Games.

Each game will allow players to compare high scores against others, and longer play will be rewarded with PlaySega Rings - a form of currency that will enable users to create their own "Escape Area" customised space.

Alongside PlaySega.com will sit the premium version, PlaySega VIP, which will offer many more games for a charge.

"What started off as a small project within the Sega Network Group has now caught the imagination of the entire company," said Nick Pili, Network business director at Sega Europe. "I have suggestions for new games filling up my in-box, from the CEO, to staff I've never even met over in our Japanese, European and US offices." "Sega fans and new gamers alike can now come together in one place and enjoy some of our most exciting vintage and new titles," he added.
