Sales up 4.8% at Capcom

Resident Evil publisher revises full year estimates upwards; profits dive slows

Osaka-based publisher Capcom, best known for its arcade background and Resident Evil videogame franchise, posted its third quarter financial results today and showed a 4.8 per cent rise in sales over the previous year.

The company took JPY 51.7 billion (USD 484.9 million) across the three months ending December 31, 2007, and although profit fell by 17.8 per cent to JPY 3.57 billion (USD 33.5 million), that still represents an improvement on the profit decrease the previous year of 41.5 per cent.

In a statement the company attributed the positive results largely to the performance of its videogames business, and particularly the sales of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.

In fact the videogames business increased its overall share of Capcom sales from around 50 per cent of the group total in the last calendar quarter of 2006 to almost 60 per cent in the latest quarter figures.

As a result of the numbers, the company has revised upwards its estimated sales revenues for the full year from JPY 78.0 billion (USD 731.5 million) to JPY 81.6 billion (USD 765.2 million).
