PS3 trophies slated for 2.40 firmware

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it will implement its long-awaited 'trophies' system in a forthcoming firmware update for the PlayStation 3.

The company released version 2.36 overnight, but stated that the 2.40 firmware will add the PS3's version of the Xbox 360's hugely successful 'achievements' idea, in which gamers will be able to collect honours for completing certain objectives within games.

The 2.40 update will also enable XMB access in-game, as well as "some other enhancements" that are set to be revealed shortly, according to the official PlayStation Blog.
