PlayStation store revamped with PS3 firmware 2.3

The previously-announced revamp of the PlayStation Store has been completed, with the new version now live in conjunction with a PS3 firmware update to version 2.3.

The new store is a native PS3 application rather than a Web-based storefront which improves navigation speed. There are also twice as many categories as before.

Other improvements include a preview feature that allows customers to view screenshots and stream trailers of games prior to a purchase and a shopping bag icon to track prior purchases.

"From day one, we have stayed committed to growing and enhancing PlayStation Store, and today we are pleased to deliver what our customers have been asking for - a more streamlined storefront that makes it easier and faster to find what they want," said Susan Panico, senior director, PlayStation Network, SCEA.

The PS3 firmware update also adds DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio support for Blu-Ray movies.
