NPD: $4.82 billion US game sales in December

Call of Duty 4 sells 1.47 million on Xbox 360

NPD has released its US sales data for December 2007, showing a 28 per cent increase from a year earlier.

Videogame hardware and software sales for the month totalled USD 4.82 billion.

In December, Nintendo sold 1.35 Wii consoles, followed by Microsoft which sold 1.26 million Xbox 360 consoles. Sony, meanwhile, sold 798,000 PlayStation 3 systems.

According to NPD, the top-selling title in the US for December 2007 was Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the Xbox 360. A total of 1.47 million copies of the game were sold.

The Top 10 best-selling games for December 2007 were as follows:

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (360) - 1.47 million
2. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - 1.4 million
3. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS2) - 1.25 million
4. Wii Play w/ remote (Wii) - 1.08 million
5. Assassin's Creed (360) - 893,700
6. Halo 3 (360) - 742,700
7. Brain Age 2 (DS) - 659,500
8. Madden NFL 08 (PS2) - 655,200
9. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (360) - 624,600
10. Mario and Sonic: Olympic Games (Wii) - 613,000
