Nintendo's 2007-8 results show growth in exports

Nintendo's 2007-8 financial report has shown that 80.6 per cent of the year's total earnings is attributed to overseas sales, particularly the in the US and Europe.

The results for the financial year showed that the Japanese company earned JPY 1.6 trillion (USD 15.4 billion / EUR 9.8 billion), with Japan itself accounting for only JPY 337 billion (USD 3.2 billion / EUR 2.06 billion).

The Americas accounted for JPY 659.7 billion (USD 6.3 billion / EUR 4.04 billion) of sales, while Europe and the rest of the world accounted for JPY 620.7 billion (USD 5.9 billion / EUR 3.8 billion) and JPY 54.8 billion (USD 529 million / EUR 336 million) respectively. This has resulted in the ratio of overseas sales jumping by 14.1 per cent, from 66.5 per cent last year, to 80.6 per cent.

Due to this increased dependence on overseas markets, and the effects that a strengthening Yen will have on Nintendo's export profits in the next year, the company has only forecast only a 7.6 per cent increase in sales for the next fiscal year, to JPY 1.8 trillion (USD 17.3 billion / EUR 11.03 billion), with a 26.3 per cent rise to JPY 325 billion (USD 3.13 billion / EUR 1.9 billion) in profits.
