Nintendo integrates DSi with Facebook in US

New Facebook Connect feature enables instant profile updates through portable console

Facebook photo integration is now available on Nintendo's DSi in the US, following a system update which enables it. The new feature, which was announced by Nintendo at this year's E3 and rolled out in Europe, Japan and Australia at the end of July, enables users to upload photos taken with their DSi directly to their Facebook profile.

The update means that when users are reviewing photos they have stored in their DSi camera album, they see a Facebook icon on the touchscreen which, when tapped, instantly transmits the photo to the user's Facebook profile. Transfer of both regular photos and those that have been manipulated using the DSi's interactive lenses is possible.

"Facebook and Nintendo DSi build on the trend of personalisation that is so important to consumers," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "We're giving people the tools to express themselves in creative new ways and show off the results to their friends and family on Facebook."

Recent sales data compiled by the NPD Group shows more than 1.7 million DSi consoles have been sold in the US alone since its launch at the start of April this year.
