New PlayStation platform titles surge onto Japanese chart

PlayStation titles vied with Nintendo over control of the Japanese chart for the week ended August 31, according to data provided by Media Create.

Rhythm Tengoku Gold for the Nintendo DS climbed a place from last week and secured the number one spot on the chart, followed by the new PlayStation 3 title, Afrika, at second place.

J-League Winning Eleven 2008 for the PlayStation 2 dropped two places from last week to come in third, followed by the PlayStation Portable title Fate/Tiger Colosseum Upper by Capcom which debuted in fourth place.

Wii Fit was in fifth place, and in sixth came the football title Inazuma Eleven for the DS. PS3's Battlefield: Bad Company broke into the charts at number seven, while Dragon Quest V for the DS and Phantasy Star Portable for the PSP came in at eighth and ninth places respectively.

Closing off the top ten of the chart was Mario Kart Wii at number ten.

The Japanese software chart for the week ended August 31 follows:
