New DS unveiled at E3?

Famitsu publisher Hirokazu Hamamura has said that Nintendo will possibly reveal a reworked DS handheld at the upcoming E3 Media & Business Summit.

The news is being reported by Bloomberg in Japan.

Nintendo has refused to comment upon the rumour, but the company does have a history of releasing new portables or re-designed models roughly every two years.

It is not clear what aspects of the current DS Lite - itself a re-designed version of the original DS released in 2004 - would be changed, but speculation has focused on eliminating the GBA cartridge slot to reduce the handheld's size, enlarging the screens and/or improving the sound quality.
