Namco Bandai games profit falls 92.4%
Namco Bandai has released financial results for its second quarter 2009 revealing a plunge in game-related profits of 94.2 per cent - that's down from JPY 4.4 billion (USD 45.5 million) the previous year to JPY 337 million (USD 3.4 million) this year.
It followed a dip in games revenue, from 37.2 billion (USD 385 million) in the same quarter last year to JPY 30.9 billion (USD 319 million).
Sales had been bolstered by the strong performance of Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit, which shifted 728,000 units on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, the company found the most success with the PlayStation 2 platform, selling three titles amounting to 2.4 million units, followed by the DS with 13 titles making up 1.5 million unit sales.
But while the company's games business fell sharply, the overall company decline was less dramatic. Its combined departments saw its net sales fall to JPY 100.8 billion (USD 1 billion), from JPY 117.4 billion (USD 1.2 billion) the previous year, and its net income fall to JPY 263 million (USD 2.7 million), from JPY 5.2 billion (USD 53.9 million).
