Midway confirms Austin studio layoffs

Routine reduction part of down-ramp

Midway has confirmed the layoff of a number of staff at its Austin studio.

Yesterday, the company announced the departure of CFO Thomas Powell and senior vice president Steve Allison.

In addition to the resignations, the company has now confirmed layoffs at its Austin studio, but it has characterised the action as routine.

"There was a minor layoff in our Austin studio following the completion of a project there," a Midway representative told GamesIndustry.biz.

"We are still growing our other teams and studios to fulfill our project needs. The reductions were routine and a function of our current project requirements."

Midway was recently rumoured to be a potential suitor for SCi, but that company ended all takeover talks when no offer was received by a deadline it had set.
