Microsoft store lists Kinect for $149
Price tallies with RRP from other online retailers
Microsoft's online store in the US is listing the price of Kinect for Xbox 360 at $149.99.
The motion control add-on is not listed on its European stores, and the basic US pre-order package does not include any software, only the the camera, power supply cable, manual and wi-fi extension cable.
Multiple other retailers have been listing Kinect for $149.99, and an internal document from Microsoft has revealed that hardware bundles for the system are also due.
Last week Microsoft's Chris Lewis told GamesIndustry.biz that the price of Kinect would be competitive and reflect the value of the system, but he would not be drawn on an RRP.
"I think it's also true that people will be very happy and willing to pay for a great experience," he said.
"Here's what I will say – we are very clear that we offer great value now, we always have. We're focused on continuing to offer great value and we're price competitive, we've always been price competitive. We have an appetite and realisation to stay price competitive in our offerings whilst continuing to offer the best value in terms of the experience."
According to a rumour on Develop Online, the manufacturing costs of Kinect are $150 per unit, leaving no room for profit if true.
