Metal Gear advisor on conspiracy to smuggle charge

An army captain used as a consultant on the Metal Gear Solid series is facing charges of conspiracy to smuggle, reports The Associated Press.

Tomoaki Iishiba bought night-vision compatible firearms sights in the US and shipped them to Japan without obtaining an export licence.

Iishiba faces one count of conspiracy to smuggle goods from the United States and is expected to plead guilty at the end of the month.

As well as being credited as a technical advisor in the making of Metal Gear Solid for Konami in 1998, Iishiba has endorsed a line of knives.
