Mediatonic plans

London-based social gaming specialist to launch own IPs via iPhone, Flash, Facebook and the like.

Mediatonic, the London-based social gaming specialist, has announced plans to release its own, self-developed games across a range of platforms. Including iPhone, traditional browser-based Flash and Facebook platforms, Mediatonic’s first three solely-owned titles merge the company’s excellence and experience in tight, accessible and entertaining game dynamics with the team’s own deep love for video gaming culture.

Founded in 2005, Mediatonic has built its reputation by producing high-quality social gaming content for a diverse range of prestigious clients; from Lego, Disney, Universal, The Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon to Nintendo, Sega, Electronic Arts, Bandai Namco and PopCap Games. Mediatonic’s new IPs will be developed in addition to its existing core business, providing its energetic team with a ‘hothouse’ outlet for exploring internal projects and pushing the quality and complexity of game design on formats traditionally seen as home to purely casual titles. One key feature of Mediatonic’s new projects is an emphasis on social and cross-platform play, with one title – due to be announced very soon - taking the form of a turn-based strategy project playable on iPhone, browser-based Flash and within Facebook’s gaming framework, where each turn can be taken on any of the supported platforms. Adding to this is an upcoming iPhone-only game borne out of Mediatonic’s own love of play for play’s sake, being an after-hours project taken to a full product thanks to Mediatonic’s working methodology of rapid iteration and speedy asset generation.

Paul Croft, Mediatonic co-founder and director of games comments “We’ve enjoyed several years of working in a white-label sense with some of the biggest brands in the entertainment business and as part of that work, the team regularly comes up with game concepts that we can’t match to client needs. Rather than simply let those ideas go to waste, we develop our best ideas into fully-fledged titles and release them ourselves.”

Dave Bailey, co-founder and general manager of Mediatonic adds “This is a hugely exciting step for Mediatonic. We’ve built a fantastic team, a deep knowledge base and a rapid development pipeline that mean we can efficiently develop our own IPs alongside our core work. As the browser-based and iPhone gaming fields continue to show remarkable growth and astounding audience figures, it’s a huge opportunity for us to produce games independently and deliver them across the most dynamic and interesting platforms in today’s gaming industry.”
