Leipzig still in 2009 calendar

Messe Leipzig, organiser of the biggest European games show - Games Convention - has said that the event is still on its calendar for 2009 despite German publisher association BIU announcing a rival event in Cologne.

Messe Leipzig, organiser of the biggest European games show - Games Convention - has said that the event is still on its calendar for 2009 despite German publisher association BIU announcing a rival event in Cologne.

Talking to sister-site Eurogamer.de, a Messe Leipzig spokesperson said that until this year's Games Convention when they speak to publishers, they can't say for sure what will happen next year - although for now it's still on.

She added that they don't believe at this point the BIU understands the concept of GC, or the associated developer conference GCDC, so they will wait and see what happens.

The BIU and Koelnmesse announced yesterday at a joint press conference that a new event would take place in Cologne from next year, and benefit from a bigger venue and more local accommodation for vistors.
