Konami reveals $2.8bn in revenues for '08

Konami has released its results for the financial year ended March 31 2008, revealing a growth in net revenues to JPY 297 billion (USD 2.8 billion).

The Japanese business group reported a growth in its digital entertainment arm, its videogames business, of 8.4 per cent, to JPY 178.9 billion (USD 1.7 billion) from JPY 165 billion (USD 1.5 billion) the previous year.

Konami also saw its operating income rise to JPY 33,839 million (USD 337 million) from JPY 28,145 million (USD 269 million) the previous year.

"With regard to the Japanese economy, in spite of the decline in consumer spending, the economy maintained a mild trend toward recovery along with the growing corporate earnings against a background of strong overseas demand in newly developing countries and countries with natural resources," explained the company in its financial results report.

The rise in net revenue and operating income saw a concurrent rise in share value, with the share price jumping to JPY 133.63 (USD 1.33) for each share from JPY 118.15 (USD 1.13) the previous year.
