Japanese charts: Nintendo consoles still on top

But PS2 game is best-selling software title

Media Create has released Japanese software and hardware sales figures for the week ending May 20, revealing that the DS and Wii are still outperforming rivals by a healthy margin.

Sales of all machines were down, however. Just over 111,000 DS units were sold, a fall of more than 50,000 compared to a week previously, while Wii sales fell slightly to hit 52,000.

In third place was the PSP with 27,500 units shifted, followed by PlayStation 2 with 11,000 units. PlayStation 3 sales were down by 180 units, standing at just over 8,600.

Xbox 360 sales fell slightly but are still sluggish, with 2000 consoles sold during the week.

SEGA topped the software chart with new PS2 title Shining Wind, which shifted 78,000 copies, followed by Ninteno's Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 - one of four DS games in the top ten.

At No. 3 was another PS2 game and another new entry - Odin Sphere from Atlus - while PSP exclusive Final Fantasy Tactics was at No. 4.

There were games for Nintendo's next-gen console in the top ten: Wii Sports (No. 5), Wii Play (No. 8) and Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree (No. 10).

DS games Final Fantasy XII were at six and seven respectively, while New Super Mario Bros. - spending its 52nd week in the chart - was at No. 9.
