"Hundreds" queue for new Xbox 360 console

Over 400 GAME and Gamestation stores opened at midnight to cater to "amazing demand"

As the new Xbox 360 slimline console launched at midnight last night, The GAME Group - which includes Gamestation - has revealed that "hundreds" of consumers were queuing up to buy the new hardware.

The company opened over 400 stores to accommodate the "amazing demand" for the Microsoft platform, which is smaller, quieter, includes a 250GB hard drive and built-in WiFi connectivity.

"At midnight, over 400 GAME and Gamestation stores opened across the UK to allow our customers to get their hands on the new Xbox 360," said GAME Group head of PR Neil Ashurst. "There has been amazing demand for the new version of this ever-popular console.

"There was a fantastic atmosphere in our stores as hundreds of people queued to be one of the first to play on the new console."

The new SKU has already made an impact in the US, where it has been available for the past few weeks, prompting Microsoft's year-on-year console sales to jump by 88 per cent.
