Hulst to keynote GDC Europe

Guerrilla Games MD to discuss Killzone 3 as Early Bird period nears its end

UBM TechWeb Game Network has announced the latest keynote for next month's GDC Europe conference as Guerrilla Games MD Herman Hulst.

Hulst, whose team is developing Killzone 3 for the PlayStation 3 - set for release in February 20100 - will deliver a talk about the tension between software and hardware, how the studio has matured and what some of the ingredients are of the success of the Killzone franchise.

"[When developing Killzone 2] we only used 60 per cent of the capacity of PS3," he said. "In Killzone 3 we're currently looking at 100 per cent. "We want to flood the players with stimuli in a positive sense. What we want to achieve is that the first thing you'll have to do is catch your breath.

"We intend to have a lot of things happening at all times so there will be an incredible amount of information to take in, no matter whether you're playing in 3D or 2D, and no matter what sound system you use."

And Frank Sliwka, conference director, added: "We are excited to welcome to the GDC Europe stage such a prominent European developer and industry figure such as Hulst. The Killzone series and work produced from Guerrilla Games is exemplar of the ingenuity of European developers."

Meanwhile anybody wishing to take advantage of the Early Bird discount for the event will need to do so before the expiry date passes this Wednesday, July 21. GamesIndustry.biz is a key media partner for GDC Europe, and we'll be reporting from the event, taking place from August 16-18 in Cologne, Germany.
